A Vacation Bible School Story

06.23.19 | Joy, Outreach | by Sharla Bell

At the Closing Worship of the first day of VBS 2019, I joined Pastor Ben on the far side of the sanctuary. He leaned over and showed me this picture he had just taken, and said, “This picture captures so much of what I love about University. The stained glass, the organ, the space station on the chancel. Hundreds of kids singing. And the guy in the green shirt right there, he’s a cardiologist who is spending his week with third graders.” We went on to talk about the incredible efforts of the volunteers who had created the amazing space station on the chancel, the VBS committee’s tireless work to put every facet of the week together, and the fact that every ministry area in the church contributes to the success of VBS—from the enthusiastic music leaders to the Special Needs buddies who make it possible for ALL kids to enjoy VBS, from the front office folks who field a million questions to the student ministry team that helps to lead our student volunteers, and of course, our phenomenal Kids’ Ministry staff who practically live here for the weeks leading up to VBS. These folks and SO MANY MORE make it possible for close to 500 children to learn about the love of Jesus. What an AMAZING week! Way to go, CHURCH!
