Be the Bridge

Posted by Albert Aguilar on

Pray also for me, so that when I speak, a message may be given to me to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it boldly, as I must speak.

Ephesians 6: 19-20

Friends,

What a joy it is to work on staff with such a great team in student ministry. I also get to lead our church in times of recreation, where we open up our wonderful gym and have people come in to play basketball, volleyball, soccer or just run around. The best part of this is, there’s something fun for all ages!  All of our weekly activities can be found at TheU.Org/Recreation.

With all these activities we have going I want to invite you to a great opportunity and a chance to be a bridge for our church. At each of these activities, we have people from surrounding areas that do not attend our church, some may even be stepping into a church for the first time. It’s a special place when members and visitors get to share a space together, and for me and others, sports present an outlet, whether that be to relieve stress, be in community with friends or just fill a need for some exercise.

Within these spaces, it is sometimes difficult to make all of our guests feel welcome, and that is where I will ask for your help. If you have the available time, come out and meet some of these new folks, even if you don’t play sports. Bake some cookies, which is always a big win for our students who come to play on Tuesdays. But know that kingdom work is waiting for us, every week, in the same space we have modern worship and our Wednesday night meal.

If you have any questions or thoughts on ways that you can help be a bridge for these new people seeking community, feel free to email me at  .

Lastly, I want to mention our church basketball league. The league is for 1st grade through adults and registration is completed online. I’ve coached and played in this league for several years, and it is a blast! It is a great place to be in community with friends and be in a place where I find great joy!

Grace and peace,

Albert Aguilar
