Come and See

Posted by Rev. Ben Trammell on

The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.”  Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.  Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him about whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph from Nazareth.”  Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”

John 1:43-46

Friends,

I love that one of the disciples makes fun of where Jesus is from. "Can anything good come from Nazareth?" "Come and see," Phillip responds.

"Where have you seen Christ this week?"

I was talking with a man this week whose life was changed by this question. He is a part of a small group of guys that meet for coffee every week. The conversation varies from serious to silly based on the season and what is going on in the lives of those who gather, but every week each of them must answer the question: "Where have you seen Christ this week?"

The man told me that the first week he thought it was an awkward question, and he told the group he hadn't seen Jesus anywhere. He went on to say that a strange thing happened over the weeks that followed. In ordinary moments and run of the mill days, he started seeing the hand of God and the presence of Christ.

It is amazing what we see when we look for it. It is astounding what God does in and around us when we expect it.

 Come and see,

Pastor Ben
