Summer Internship Positions – Summer 2026
Summer internships at University Methodist Church are paid positions intended to help college-aged students who are discerning a call to vocational ministry or who are looking to serve in a ministry setting during the summer while also growing in their own sense of vocation. Housing arrangements can be discussed with those who do not live in the area.
See below for descriptions of each program area’s intern position. Unless otherwise noted, applicants should be at least 1 year post high school graduation and positions are full time from the middle of May to the middle of August. Start and End Dates are flexible, depending on program needs, and the typical length of an individual’s internship is 10 weeks (totaling 400 hours over the course of the summer).
Please specify which internship(s) (Kids or Student Ministries) you would like to be considered in both an email cover letter and application.

Kids Ministry Intern – (Full Time, 40 hours- Exempt)
Kids Ministry currently has an opening for one summer intern. The applicants should have a love and passion for the Lord, children, and families.
The Kids Ministry summer intern will assist with the planning and leading of several summer events including Vacation Bible School. They will gain experience working with a large age range of children from infancy through 5th grade. There will be large and small group teaching opportunities weekly and a variety of responsibilities that practice effective communication with volunteers and families.
Student Ministry Intern (Full Time, 40 hours – Exempt)
Student Ministry is excited to welcome applicants for 2 available summer internships. The applicant should be 2 years post high school graduation and have a love and passion for the Lord, students, and families.
These interns will assist with planning, leading, and attending our mission trips for Middle School and High School. They will also rotate through teaching during our weekly worship service, Wednesday Night Live, as well as lead Sunday morning programming for students. The intern team will be responsible for the planning and carrying out 12-15 intern-led events spread out over the summer. They will be expected to connect with students, communicate with families about our events, be present at all student ministry events, and other duties as assigned.

Family Formation Assistant
The Family Formation Assistant supports the mission of forming families and children deeply in the story of God. This role assists in the planning, coordination and implementation of spiritual formation ministries for children and families with a particular focus on, but not limited to, the Chapel of The Good Shepherd.

Working Hours: This is a part-time position that will work an anticipated 12 hours per week.
Anticipated Schedule: Wednesday 5 pm – 8pm, Sunday 10 am – 1pm plus 6 flexible hours during the week. Also, during certain times of the year, additional hours may be required to meet the job's demands. All church staff will be asked to support and serve on religious holidays and worship services, including Christmas Eve and Easter.

- Serves as Lead Catechist for Level 1 Chapel of The Good Shepherd sessions for University Methodist Church children and will specifically have oversight and leadership for Wednesday Night and Sunday morning sessions;
- Equips, supports and schedules volunteers in Chapel of The Good Shepherd (Levels 1 and 2);
- Organizes, maintains and prepares materials and supplies for Chapel of The Good Shepherd;
- Continues ongoing formation for Chapel of The Good Shepherd to help expand the ministry;
- Supports family faith formation ministry offerings/events as needed; and
- Establishes a trust relationship with families, staff and community through open communication, teamwork, and demonstrating a positive attitude.
- Active faith and commitment to the mission of University Methodist Church;
- Experience working with children and families as well as experience and comfort in working with volunteers;
- Actively engaged in CGS (Catechesis of the Good Shepherd) formation;
- Commitment to continuing CGS (Catechesis of the Good Shepherd) education;
- Strong organization skills and able to communicate with others in a positive, professional manner; and
- Love of children and families and a desire to form the next generation deeply in God’s story.
- Oral and written communication skills and abilities to interact with the congregational volunteers;
- Strong computer skills;
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks; and
- Ability to manage, lead and mentor others.
