How to Join
Becoming a member at University may be a big step for you that requires an intentional commitment on your part, but we make the process easy. Although taking your vows of membership is the only requirement to join the church, the pastors believe that learning more about your commitment and how to take your next steps is vital in your faith walk here at University. You can do that by attending our Connections Class, which is offered six times a year and is led by our pastors. In this class, you will learn more about the community of faith here at University and how we worship, connect, grow and serve together in ministry for one another, our neighbors, and around the world. Look below for information on our next Connection Class and registration information.
If you are ready to answer the invitation by taking your vows first, you may do so any Sunday. Each week, at the end of our worship services, our pastors extend an invitation to anyone that is interested in making University their church home to come up front and do so. (If you take the Connections Class first, you will also be given the opportunity to join the following weekend as a class instead of going up front individually.) At that time, the congregation will renew their vows of membership with you and vow to support you in your journey.
After the service, you will be escorted to one of our Welcome Desks, where volunteers will assist you in filling out the appropriate membership paperwork.
The Connections Class has been designed for folks that are ready to join the church or for those who want to know more about what it means to be a member here at University— what it means to be part of this community of faith and how we worship, connect, grow and serve together in ministry for one another, our neighbors, and around the world.
Our pastors and leaders from the Connections and Adult Discipleship Ministries will spend two-and-a-half hours with you, sharing times of teaching, questions and answers, fellowship and a meal together. It is a great opportunity to ask questions about anything you want to know about the church, whether it is about the Methodist church, our sacraments, ministries within the church, opportunities for study or ways to serve. We want to be sure you have an idea of what your next steps are and how to take them.
At the end of our class time, you will have the opportunity to commit to joining the church by filling out membership paperwork in preparation for the following weekend. Each class will then have their members join at the 11a services in both the contemporary and traditional worship services.
