Denominational Discernment

A church council was held today May 21st to act upon the motion of disaffiliation from the United Methodist Church by University. That motion was approved with 956 votes in favor and 164 votes against. In addition, there was one invalid ballot and 8 abstentions. While 85% in favor is a considerable majority I want to remind all of us of the commitment we have made since this journey began to hold on to each other with love, grace and kindness. We must continue to listen and learn together as we follow God’s leading.

This has been a long and hard season and I am so thankful for the people and leaders of this community. The mission of God in and through the people of University continues. I pray all of you will join us this Wednesday evening for an all church worship service at 6:30pm in the Sanctuary. If you can make it a bit earlier there will be food beginning at 5. Like always there is a place for you at meal time at University, the love of God is for you and bids you welcome to the communion table we will share on Wednesday night, and there is a role for all of us in the story of God’s heart and hope for this community.
