A new focus for the Outreach Ministry in 2019 is leading monthly community service days. So far in 2019 teams from the church have served at Christian Assistance Ministry, the International Refugee Community Gardens and Locke Hill Elementary. Our goal is to spread the love of Christ throughout our community, better know our community and encourage our congregation to directly serve people in need in our community.

On Saturday, May 4th, we are going to the near Westside of San Antonio to serve with Last Chance Ministries (LCM).  They are opening a transitional living community using tiny houses.  We are helping them with yard work, repair a fence and move a play structure. This is a family friendly event. Come join us to help LCM prepare their transitional community for its’ grand opening. The Outreach Ministry will provide all the needed tools, snacks and drinks. For more information and to sign up for this and future workdays, please go to Current Events on the church website and select the “Community Outreach Workdays” event.

If you know of a community organization that we should partner assist through a workday, or you want to help plan one of our workdays, contact Steve Ryan and Pauline Rodrigues.

Scheduled Workdays:

Last Chance Ministries, Victorious Point Transitional Community – Saturday, May 4

Strong Foundations – Saturday, June 29

Ronald McDonald House, Medical Center – Saturday, July 6

University’s Vision Statement references Matthew 28:18-20 telling us to GO! Outreach wants to know where do you go and serve when not serving through the church. What service organization or charity do you support in our community? Let us know by responding to the survey. If you already filled out the survey sent out previously, you don’t need to fill it out again.  If the question does not apply to you, and it is a fill in your answer, please just type in N/A, not applicable, or 'no, does not apply'. Unfortunately, even if the question does not apply to you, or is 'no', you'll need to answer all of the questions, in order to submit it. If you have any questions, feel free to call or email Pauline at 210-696-1033 or

Do you want to serve but don’t know where or how? You can go to the Serve section of the church website to find different ways to serve inside and outside of the church. There are ministry needs listed down the left side of the page and you can refine them by selecting the “change filters” button. Don’t find what you want or need something to fit a busy schedule, contact our Servant Development Specialist, Jessica Caccamese to set up an appointment to find your opportunity to serve our community.

For a long time, the Outreach Ministry has been thinking of ways to get college students and young adults excited about mission trips. We’ve met with many of these young adults, and listened to their heart, stories and plans. Most who “Go,” go with their university or a recognized international mission organization (YWAM, Vision, World Race, etc.). The interested young adults can write support letters to some of us. As a church, how can we help? Well, starting this month, I will provide our readers with the names of these called young adults in our congregation and a link to their support page.  You can pray for them by name, encourage them, and if you are called, support them financially.

If you are a young adult who wants to go on a mission trip, but does not know where to start, contact Steve Ryan. We can help connect you with opportunities and young adults in our congregation who have gone before you, to the ends of the earth (and back). As a team, we can advise you and prepare you for a trip that makes a difference.
