Good Things Happen on Wednesdays

Posted by Rev. Ben Trammell on

Friends,

So I guess it’s time you knew: I really like Johnny Cash. My family doesn’t share my passion, and they groan when I put his music on during a car ride, so I understand if he is not your cup of tea. I admit, if you were trying to pitch the concept behind some of his songs, folks would look at you like you had lost your mind: “So it’s a song about this boy with a girl’s name that fights his father (and let’s perform it in a prison). Or how about one about stealing a car from the factory one piece at a time and building it at home? Or a song about which day the best cars are made on?”

The answer is Wednesday by the way. You want to buy a car made on Wednesday. On Wednesday, so the logic goes, workers have recovered enough from the weekend prior but haven’t yet been captured by the weekend to come.

Whether you like Cash or not I can tell you he is right; great things do happen on Wednesday. We get together every Wednesday for dinner in the North Worship Center. Students, seniors, adults and children around the table, eating and connecting as God is building something in our community. You can find out more about our Wednesday Nights at University at TheU.Org/Wednesday

If you have never given Wednesday Nights at University a try, next week would be a great chance to jump in. Next Wednesday, February 14th, is Ash Wednesday and will mark the beginning of our observance of Lent. We will have a 7:00 AM service followed by a pancake breakfast for any so inclined, a midday service at 11:30, and dinner together at 5, followed by our evening service at 6:15. All services will be in the Sanctuary.

Make Wednesday Night’s meal, study or choir a part of your Lenten preparation for Easter, and then I hope, as with all good disciplines, you make it part of your life.

See you on Wednesday,

 Pastor Ben
