Happy New Year University!
The beginning of a new year brings with it the opportunity to turn the page on what has been and embrace what can be. We make resolutions to eat better, to exercise more, to spend less time with our faces in our screens and to spend more time being present to those we love.
The newness of this year invites us to think about what we would like to accomplish in the next 365 days and how we hope to use our hours and days to make a difference.
One of the many ways I hope University can make a difference in 2018 is by looking at the mental health needs in our congregation and our community. In 2017 we invited you to take part in a mental health survey so that we could identify areas of concern, and in turn, develop ways to address those concerns.
We will be sharing more details from that survey in the days to come. Today I’m excited to share with you that we have identified a need to develop a counseling ministry at University. Steve Welch is a licensed professional counselor who is currently seeing clients at University. If you or someone you know is suffering from depression, anxiety, addiction, relationship conflict, or any other mental health issue, Steve is someone who can help. You can make appointments with Steve directly via phone, 210.690.7345 or email, .
Steve and I have been meeting and visiting and discerning the way forward for several months now and I believe that his gifts in counseling will be a very helpful addition to our current Care and Community ministries.
I pray that 2018 can be a year where we at University are growing stronger, healthier and more whole in body, mind and spirit. I pray that University can be known as a place in our community where people can find healing and hope for the hurts in their lives. I know that is the power of Christ among us.
Happy New Year dear friends! I look forward to walking through 2018 alongside all of you.
