Mother's Day

Posted by Susan Galindo on

But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands.

–Exodus 20:6 (NLT)

Friends,

Mother’s Day is almost here! Many of us will be honoring our mothers for all they mean to us. We honor them for the many years they have selflessly done everything in their power so we can be all God has called us to be. But for some of us, celebrating Mother’s Day can be challenging. Trying to find a card that says the truth about difficult relationships between moms and sons/daughters can be exhausting – if not impossible. Not everyone has the mom that was able to provide what children need to be happy, healthy kiddos. Generations of dysfunction, abuse and addictions have an impact on moms and kids. But I have met so many moms here who are “cycle breakers” – moms who put their foot down and say “No More!” to the sins and problematic behaviors exhibited throughout generations of family members. These moms are the heroes who refuse to join in those things that are harmful to families and instead cultivate the things that bring life to families. I have witnessed this so many times in this church with moms (and dads too) who are fostering and adopting children coming out of toxic environments. Because of these brave parents, children are now placed directly in the line of God's “lavishing unfailing love for a thousand generations” to them and their children, and their children’s children….

What a blessing it is to be brothers and sisters in Christ to these superhero, cycle breakers, whether it is in their own family, or breaking these cycles with the children that are being fostered and adopted. When we reach our heavenly home we will get to see how God’s unfailing love brings life to a thousand generations of the children we impact on this earth. May our Father God shower blessings on all of our moms today. May His love and strength be with those of us who want to – and who continue to – break cycles so that we and our families can experience His unfailing love to a thousand generations.

Blessings,
