Summer's Journey

Posted by Ben Trammell on

God is our refuge and strength,
    an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
    and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
    and the mountains quake with their surging.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy place where the Most High dwells.

 God is within her, she will not fall;
    God will help her at break of day.
 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
    he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

 The Lord Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

 Come and see what the Lord has done,
    the desolations he has brought on the earth.
 He makes wars cease
    to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
    he burns the shields with fire.
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth.”

 The Lord Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

                                                Psalm 46

Friends,

The heat is a clue and the calendar confirms it: it is summer.
Despite the heat, or perhaps because of it, many folks are traveling in this season.
I spoke with someone who just returned from a ‘vacation’ with small children.

“How was it?”, I asked.
“Well…ummm…great…yeah…not relaxing…and I am really tired, but…yeah…the kids loved it…it was…great”

It made me laugh it also got me thinking about how God would describe the journey with his people, with us…I don’t know that God gets tired, but the Psalmist reminds us of the passionate commitment of God to lead us through. We are reminded that we don’t have to fear that we are too much to love or not enough to keep. God is our refuge and strength and a fortress for our hopes. The temperature may rise nations may be in uproar the people of God and the holy places will not melt or fall.

The Lord Almighty is with us; be still and know…

Blessings,
Pastor Ben
